Subject: Re: Newbie: USB IR dongle problem

Hello Paul,

Sorry for any delay, I tend to read this list on a bi-weekly basis now - making direct support requests a little harder.... If anyone else is reading this, and is interested in any xbox IR stuff, far easier to email me directly.

Anyway, back to the point.

This is the kind of feedback I needed. Looks like you've found a bug. I don't run mandrake myself so this is useful.

I suspect your running kernel is missing keyboard event input layer support... having said that - the driver should NOT load CLEANLY if that is the case.

If you can email me the kernel ".config" file used to build you MANDRAKE kernel (not the 2.4.19-dev051 .config), I'd be happy to work on the problem.

Hi,

I have installed Mandrake 9.0 using the supplied ISO
images. The install CD is great apart from one niggle
- the lack of the XBox dongle support.

I installed the Mandrake 9 Kernel Sources RPM, and
applied the patch-kernel-2.4.19-dev-0.5.1. I followed
the instructions in the README.xbox, but as a short
cut, instead of doing a 'make modules_install' I
copied over the compiled usb-xboxir.o file to
/lib/modules. I would do a full module install, but I
am a bit worried about screwing up my existing
modules.

Whenever I insert the IR dongle I get a register dump
from the kernel:

I suspect my problems will be due to my lack of
experience with re-building Linux kernels, but I would
be very grateful if someone could offer some advice.
When I finally get mplayer working with the XBox
remote I will have achieved Home Entertainment
Nirvana!

Thanks,

Paul
