I do the following: - apply the pata-sata.patch (attached) - add libata.atapi_enabled=1 to the kernel parameters As an alternative, the 2.6.17 patches should contain a patch that make the CD-ROM accessible via IDE, so you have to enable the relevant IDE config options in your kernel config.
