Opie boot. Complete procedure+questions.: msg#00027linux.ports.h2200
Hi, All. Decided to try and boot opie, since I found a lot of ipkgzzz for it. So that's the full story from the very beginning, since it can help newbies. 1st bug i've noticed in ramdiosk rescue. I firstly wanted to use CF card for the tarball storage and the SD for installation, since my SD is a 128mb and there wasn't enough. The ramdisk said that it found a fat partition, but couldn't mount is and printed out below that : (/dev/) as far as I think that should be /dev/hda for CF Had to write the tarball on SD and than delete it via a card reader. So here comes opie with its own toolset and bugset=) Firstly, I liked the bluetooth manager until I tried it. Always crashes and looks like a very very preprepreprepreprealpha version - most services are unavaliable. And while scanning the device my big pc didn't find any services at all! Anyone knows how to fix that stuff? > The same bug as with GPE! VFAT refuses to mount. here's the terminal output: root@AiFiLTr0:~# mount /dev/hda1 -t auto /media/cf mount: Mounting /dev/hda1 on /media/cf failed: No such file or directory root@AiFiLTr0:~# mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 -t auto /mnt/card mount: Mounting /dev/mmcblk0p1 on /mnt/card failed: Invalid argument Anyone, help, please!!! Here's the lsmod output if that can help: lsmod Module Size Used by ppp_deflate 5088 0 ppp_async 9760 1 ppp_generic 26004 6 ppp_deflate,ppp_async slhc 6336 1 ppp_generic hci_uart 17568 4 snd_pcm_oss 49184 1 snd_mixer_oss 15328 2 snd_pcm_oss sa1100_rtc 9580 0 rfcomm 35832 6 ircomm_tty 21704 0 ircomm 12068 1 ircomm_tty irda 117960 2 ircomm_tty,ircomm ipv6 264700 8 hidp 13056 2 l2cap 22724 12 rfcomm, hidp bluetooth 47196 8 hci_uart,rfcomm,hidp,l2cap g_ether 13906 0 vfat 10752 0 fat 47356 1 vfat nls_base 7072 2 vfat, fat root@AiFiLTr0:~# > Next was the problem how to transport ipks to the device while > running windoze Since I don't have free space for linux on a big pc here (I wasn't at home), I had to find a way to connect a linux pda with a windows machine. Windows recognises pda as Ethernet Gadget and doesn't have a diver. I don't have irda on pc... so Bluetooth. I used "Lan access point service" of my bt device. Yet the manager always crashed upon connecting and connection was only successful when I turned encryption and authorisation off on both devices. Then I started Apache and downloaded ipks to device through terminal: ipkg install http://10.20.0.1/1.ipk (renamed ipks to save time) Then I've installed vsftpd to simplify the information transfer. After that life became a lot easier =)))) Finally! keyboard supports russian and there is a russian locale for opie in an ipk. cool! I'll be fixing the translation errors the other day, since there are many bugz here. hehe! KillBill for opie also made me a good deal happy. I hate this guy and even have a "Microsoft must die" T-shirt. So now the most of the bugz. >Touchscreen is killing me. It seems to be ... don't know how to describe the strange behaviour ... inacurate I've picked some previous topics from maillist about the subject, but didn't get what's the exact procedure to fix that. Anyone knows? > Buttons. The power button doesn't seem to suspend the device as in GPE, but resumes it. Not so comfortable... Seeking for a fix. The first two hardware buttons work and can be mapped easily, but the Joypad, power button and the other to don't seem to act as supposed. Anyone knows a fix? > battery No battery readings as in GPE. =( > Wallpapers. Strange, but opie had no GUI for changing wallpapers. hehe. /opt/QtPalmtop/pics/launcher/opie-background.jpg if anyone needs. Player > audio Works perfectly. I liked the player design. > video converted with mencoder here the opts: -ofps 30 -oac lavc -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=msmpeg4v2:vbitrate=400:acodec=mp3:abitrate=64 -o was a bit slow and with no sound. Anyway looks and works better than GPE. Thanks to all involved. I'll be making some manuals in russian about linux on a PDA and will send a link as soon as I've done that. -- Cheers!
