/cygdrive/c/cygwin/bin/g++: not found

I build some C++ source from the cygwin shell and received 
(/cygdrive/c/cygwin/bin/g++: not found) when executing make (-f Makefile).  
However, if I copy the whole line (as produced by the Makefile), it will run.  
I verified that g++ is there.  Any idea?
