I renamed the option and added a comment to the help. I hope this will help.
But in some cases you might need the user to be different.

Well, you shouldn't use the python script, but you should use the compiled c
script at svn.openstreetmap.org/applications/utils/export/osm2pgsql/
I adapted the script to reflect this.
