I forgot about this part: This is an interim solution until the planet.osm is
UTF8 clean ...
easiest for now would be:
svn co http://svn.openstreetmap.org/
cd svn.openstreetmap.org/utils/planet.osm/C
gcc UTF8sanitizer.c -o UTF8sanitizer
# then put the resulting too into your search path.
Hope this works , and I also hope it won't be necessary too long.
