I spoke with a guy from NavTeq. Unfortunately, he's from the GIS
department, and not the nav systems department, so he wasn't terribly
helpful, but he did give me one piece of information.
Licenses for full-U.S. maps are about $27,000 USD.
Per user.
Yeah, ummmmmm.... I think this would only be useful if places like
Expedia locked us out, and we had to set up our own map server.
I'm still investigating. I know they don't charge $27K for each BMW
sold with it, so the licensing has to be a little more flexible. I hope.

Nobody has done it for Linux (for the nebulous market reasons), so why don't
we do it? They've got the maps, but no money for development. We can do
development, but need maps.

I sent a query to NavTeq, and I'll post any results I receive from them.
If they require anti-copying measures, can we do that in an open source
environment? I don't know, so I'd appreciate any thoughts or comments you
might have.
