Pro vs. Home GentooX install: msg#00000

Subject: Pro vs. Home GentooX install
Hi,
I've currently downloaded the Home install CD. The DVD boots and I
can log in via ssh. Is there a ways for me to break out of the install
scripts and look around a bit first? I'd like to look at backing up
the partitions I currently have on machine and I cannot figure out how
to do this yet. (I'm not that advanced a Linux guy. Sorry!)

Also, on my XBox (new, unused for games, 1.6b I think, DuoX2 mod
chip) I can only boot with DVD media so far. I guess this is fairly
common? Or will CDRW work if I get some different types and try them
out. I had silver Maxell CDRW's but gold Sony DVDs.

Thanks in advance for any info.

I guess this list is pretty low volume so far?

thanks,
Mark
