[010] - eTcl 1.0-rc24
by Evolane (http://freshmeat.net/users/evolane/)
Mon, Dec 24th 2007 10:23

Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries :: Tcl Extensions

About: eTcl is a "batteries-included" thread-enabled Tcl/Tk runtime
available as a single standalone executable. It includes several popular
extensions (Thread, Sqlite, Zlib, etc.), together with a Tcl wrapper for
the Pixane image processing library.

Changes: eTcl is now based on Tcl/Tk 8.5.0, and inherits its numerous
goodies, such as speedup of the new bytecode engine, integrated
arbitrary-precision arithmetic, and new skinnable widgets. The Tcl API for
Odyce has been stabilized and allows dynamic compilation of most Tcl/Tk
extensions on all x86 and ARM architectures in just a few hundreds of
milliseconds, making it a viable alternative to shared libraries for
deployment. The Pixane package exposes more transformations (e.g.
arbitrary image rotations) at the Tcl level, and its memory footprint has
been reduced.

by AN (http://freshmeat.net/users/aneuper/)
Mon, Dec 24th 2007 02:56

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis
System :: Archiving :: Compression
System :: Filesystems

About: Freedup finds and eliminates duplicate files by linking them, and
thus reduces the amount of used disk space within one or more file
systems. By default, hardlinks are used on a single device, symbolic links
when the devices differ. A set of options allows you to modify the methods
of file comparison, the hash functions, the linking behavior, and the
reporting style. You may use batch or interactive mode. Freedup usually
only considers identical files, but when comparing audio or graphics
files, you may elect to ignore the tags.

Changes: You now have full capabilities to determine link direction, which
is particularily helpful when more then two files need to be linked. Also,
the limitation that not more than 256 files may be identical no longer
exists. (For efficient memory usage, four identical files are assumed and
if more exist, memory allocation is doubled each time the boundary is
reached.) The "-H" switch allows you to treat files that are already
linked as duplicates, too. Without "-H", depending on the linking
directions, the results can vary.

[014] - Gateway Anti-Virus 3.0
by Thomas Cort (http://freshmeat.net/users/tcort/)
Mon, Dec 24th 2007 10:49

Security

About: Gateway Anti-Virus allows applications across the enterprise to
check files for viruses by providing a SOAP-based virus scanning Web
service. Client application attach files to SOAP messages and submit them
to the Gateway Anti-Virus Web service. The Web service uses clamav to scan
the attachments for viruses and it returns the results to the client.

Changes: The XML schema has been updated to include additional information
for the client applications, such as the name of the virus scanner library
and its version. Any 2.0 clients will need to be updated to work with this
release. A working client and test file are provided in the release, as
well as an example SOAP request and response. This release also includes
enhanced error checking and error reporting.

by m31 (http://freshmeat.net/users/m31/)
Mon, Dec 24th 2007 03:08

Documentation
Education
Internet

About: The goal of Hilbert II, which is in the tradition of Hilbert's
program, is the creation of a system that enables a working mathematician
to put theorems and proofs (in the formal language of predicate calculus)
into it. These proofs are automatically verified by a proof checker.
Because this system is not centrally administered and enables references
to any location on the Internet, a world wide mathematical knowledge base
could be built. It also contains information in "common mathematical
language".

Changes: Some small but important improvements were made. The error
presentation gives the correct URL and the GUI marks the position of the
first error in the source code of a QEDEQ module. During checking for
logical correctness, all required QEDEQ modules (as specified in the
"IMPORTS" section) are loaded. Beside various refactorings, the module
"qedeq_basic_logic_v1.xml" is a little bit more formal (that is: has more
formal formulas in it).

by Brian Aker (http://freshmeat.net/users/briantangentorg/)
Mon, Dec 24th 2007 03:09

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: Mod Random provides three services. The first service is
redirection: you feed it URLs and it will redirect to random URLs that you
have loaded. The second is providing environment variables that can be used
for implementing ad banner systems. The third is displaying entire pages of
random HTML, using its own custom handlers in combination with with random
ads and quotes that you feed into the system. It can also supply text via
an environment variable called RANDOM_QUOTE, RANDOM_AD, or by environment
variables that you specify. This can be used to implement fortune cookies,
message of the day, entire random pages, or banner ads.

Changes: Support for Apache 2.2 was added. Include files were cleaned up.
Hardcoded apxs were removed.

[030] - task spooler 0.4.2
by viric (http://freshmeat.net/users/viric/)
Mon, Dec 24th 2007 23:37

System

About: task spooler is a Unix batch system where the tasks spooled run one
after the other. Each user in each system has his own job queue. The tasks
are run in the correct context (that of enqueue) from any shell/process,
and its output/results can be easily watched. It is very useful when you
know that your commands depend on a lot of RAM, a lot of disk use, give a
lot of output, or for whatever reason it's better not to run them at the
same time.

Changes: Labels were added with -L, which can be used to better
distinguish commands on the queue list. Per-job information was added and
is readable through -i and configurable through TS_ENV. Dependent
enqueuing was added (-d), making it possible to conditionally run based on
the last job's result. Some bugs were fixed.

[032] - units-filter 2.9
by Georges Khaznadar (http://freshmeat.net/users/georgesk/)

Education :: Computer Aided Instruction (CAI)
Text Processing :: Filters
Utilities

About: Units-filter is a basic standalone filter written in C, flex, and
bison. It inputs strings like "1.5e3 nN.m.s^-1" (which could be the time
growth ratio of a torque) and outputs the value in standard SI units,
followed by the physical dimension of this value. This parser can be
embedded in educational test systems, in order to analyze a student's
answer to a problem of physics or chemistry.

Changes: The representation of units has been made more readable with the
option -o. There are a few bugfixes.

About: WACS (Web-Based Adult Content Server) is a suite of programs that
manages photo sets and video clips of an adult nature. It runs on a home

store, peruse, and catalogue a personal collection of adult material. Its
many features include model catalogs, attribute-based searching,
randomized highlights, new addition lists, and a flexible bookmark
mechanism.

Changes: This release includes a complete implementation of the new Wacs
User Interface toolkit, wacsui - the first time the PHP variant has
offered the presentation utility functions available in the Perl API. In
addition to this, several more of the significant configuration query
functions from the Core API are now implemented: getvaluename and
geticonlist in particular. This release is compatible with Wacs release
