Information Management

About: AgileWiki is a program that explores new knowledge representation.
It is an attempt to implement, at least in part, Norm Kashdan's Rolonic
Theory, a profoundly different approach to time and knowledge
representation. CowDb is a high-speed object store over which the next
generation of AgileWiki will be written.

Changes: A threading bug in queries has been fixed. Hashes are now working
again. Handles now support symbolic links.

Fri, Dec 21st 2007 06:17

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Office/Business :: Groupware

About: AjaXplorer is an easy-to-install file explorer for remotely
managing files on a Web server. Its rich GUI makes it accessible to any
end-user. Its main features are common file actions (uploading,
downloading, moving, renaming, etc.), online file editing, image preview,
a bookmarks system, and more. It requires PHP to run and FTP access only
for installation.

Changes: This release presents the UI changes of the forthcoming 2.4,
including a new uploader, a drag'n'drop implementation, a contextual menu,
charsets support, location bar autocompletion, recycle bin and bookmarks
management enhancements, and lots of code refactoring.

[004] - Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript 2007-12-21
by Terry Burton (http://freshmeat.net/users/terryburton/)
Fri, Dec 21st 2007 02:07

Information Management
Multimedia :: Graphics
Office/Business

About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode
generation process whenever your language needs change. The project
supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E,
ISBN, Code 128 (A, B, and C), Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2
of 5, and Codabar.

Changes: The ISBN encoder was slightly improved so that it automatically
generates the check digit even when the user does not omit the final dash
from the input.

About: DRBPoll is a simple PHP poll script that doesn't require a
database. It allows you to put a poll form on virtually any page on your
Web site. The results page displays a colored bar graph of the votes. The
look and feel of the poll form and results page can be customized using a
standard CSS file. Data is stored in flat files, so no database is
required.

Changes: This version includes a new option to disable duplicate vote
prevention. A number of minor issues were also fixed.

[007] - flimsel 0.0.5
by josch (http://freshmeat.net/users/hofmann/)
Fri, Dec 21st 2007 14:32

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: flimsel is a minimalistic digitial image browser based on the fltk
toolkit. It displays thumbnails of images given on the command line. It is
intended to be used in digital image processing shell scripts. flimsel uses
the very fast epeg library for JPEG thumbnail generation. flimsel outputs
keyboard hotkeys and file names of selected images to stdout. Images whose
filenames are written to stdin will be reloaded. The flimsel.sh script in
the examples directory uses this to implement basic image manipulations on
selected images.

Changes: Various bugs were fixed, drag scrolling was added, and a man page
was written.

by AN (http://freshmeat.net/users/aneuper/)
Fri, Dec 21st 2007 16:20

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis
System :: Archiving :: Compression
System :: Filesystems

About: Freedup finds and eliminates duplicate files by linking them, and
thus reduces the amount of used disk space within one or more file
systems. By default, hardlinks are used on a single device, symbolic links
when the devices differ. A set of options allows you to modify the methods
of file comparison, the hash functions, the linking behavior, and the
reporting style. You may use batch or interactive mode. Freedup usually
only considers identical files, but when comparing audio or graphics
files, you may elect to ignore the tags.

Changes: The option '-k' allows you to select the linking direction
between all identical files. The source may be the oldest, the newest,
thrst given file or the one that has the most links already. These rules
can also be specified for each link cluster individually in interactive
mode. As a side effect, the space save counting works more exactly, and
the performance was degraded by an average of about 10%. This will be
compensated by the default, which avoids hash functions now. You no longer
need to add directories manually to the config file.

Fri, Dec 21st 2007 04:07

Software Development :: Libraries

About: GLib is a library containing many useful C routines for things such
as trees, hashes, and lists. GLib was previously distributed with the GTK
toolkit, but has been split off as of the developers' version 1.1.0.

Changes: This is the first development release leading up to GLib 2.16,
which will be source and binary compatible with the GLib 2.14 series. GIO,
a VFS API designed to replace GnomeVFS, was added. Local filesystems are
supported by default, and the separate gvfs module supports various
backend implementations. The test framework GTest and the hash algorithm
collection GChecksum were added. GHash now has iterators. GMarkup,
GKeyFile, GAsyncQueue, and GError were enhanced. Many bugs were fixed.

Fri, Dec 21st 2007 12:06

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Object Brokering

About: Granite Data Services (GDS) is an alternative to Adobe® LiveCycle®
(Flex? 2) Data Services for J2EE application servers. It is not, however,
a drop-in replacement: you won't be able to simply deploy a Flex 2 Data
Services application into a Granite Data Services server without
modifications. The main goal of this project is to provide a framework for
Flex 2/EJB3/Spring/Pojo application development with full AMF3/RemoteObject
benefits.

Changes: This release has a Data Push feature (Gravity) implemented as
AMF3 data sent over HTTP (Comet, freely based on the Bayeux protocol).
Full Spring integration with Acegi security and EJB 3. Full JBoss/Seam
integration. Gas3 (the ActionScript3 code generator) has been
substantially improved: the use of Groovy 1.5 gives better performance,
and Gas3 1.0 brings extended support for Enum and all kinds of EJB 3.

Fri, Dec 21st 2007 11:56

Communications
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: GRIA is Grid middleware that enables use of the Grid in a secure,
interoperable and flexible manner. It makes use of business models,
processes, and semantics to allow resource owners and users to discover
each other and negotiate terms for access to high-value resources. It
implements an overall business process to find, procure and utilise

was updated to version 1.8.0. The TurtolCMS now dynamically sets the height
of Editor windows according to the height of the browser window. This
should allow the TurtolCMS to work better with smaller monitors. A bug was
fixed that prevented new TurtolCMS users created in version 0.5.20 from
logging out of the TurtolCMS.

[066] - Xapian and Omega 1.0.5
by Olly Betts (http://freshmeat.net/users/OllyBetts/)
Fri, Dec 21st 2007 12:00

Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Xapian is a search engine library, scalable to collections
containing hundreds of millions of documents. It's written in C++ with
bindings for Perl, Python, PHP, Java, Tcl, C#, and Ruby. It is a highly
adaptable toolkit that allows developers to easily add advanced indexing
and search facilities to their own applications. It supports the
Probabilistic Information Retrieval model and also a rich set of boolean
query operators. Omega is a Web search application built upon the Xapian
library. It can index a Web server's document tree (including HTML, PDF,
OpenOffice, MS Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Works, WordPerfect, RTF, PS, etc.),
or data exported from arbitrary sources (e.g. SQL databases).

Changes: The new Xapian::Sorter class allows more sophisticated sorting of
search results. There's also a new document covering all the different
sorting options that Xapian provides. Running a match on a single remote
database is now more efficient. Omega's omindex indexer now handles
uppercase file extensions better, and limits the RAM that filter programs
can use to help avoid problems with runaway filters. In Python, this
release no longer drops the GIL during Xapian.MSet.items or
Xapian.ESet.items, which could have led to undefined behaviour in
multithreaded environments.
