[009] - Daikon 4.3.4
by Jeff Perkins (http://freshmeat.net/users/jhpnez/)
Tue, Dec 4th 2007 14:08

Documentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: Daikon is an implementation of dynamic detection of likely
invariants. An invariant is a property (such as "x=2*y+5" or
"this.next.prev = this" or "myarray is sorted by <") that holds at a
certain point or points in a program. Invariants are often seen in assert
statements, documentation, and formal specifications. Invariants can be
useful in program understanding and a host of other applications. Daikon
runs a program, observes the values that the program computes, and then
reports properties that were true over the observed executions. It can
detect properties in Java, C, C++, Perl, and IOA programs, in spreadsheet
files, and in other data sources.

Changes: Dyncomp (Java) was enhanced with a number of new options. It has
a new significantly faster mode where it only tracks references (and not
primitives). It also has additional output that makes it easier to
determine where interactions occurred.

[019] - JCR 0.6.0rc1
by John Dickson (http://freshmeat.net/users/captsens/)
Tue, Dec 4th 2007 14:00

Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: JCR is a Web application for performing and managing code reviews.
Although it has some special logic for reviewing Java projects, it can be
used for reviews of any type of source code. JCR manages all stages of the
review process (initial project setup, individual review, joint review
meeting, post-review tidy-up), but it's mainly there to show diff views of
files that have changed and to allow comments to be made on any line of any
file marked for review.

Changes: This is a complete rewrite of JCR, using more modern libraries
and frameworks. The user interface has remained mostly the same as
previous versions, although there have been many usability enhancements.
New or improved features include two-level sorting in all tables,
indicators for which files you've already reviewed, and the ability for
the owner to revert review projects to previous states. JCR now uses
easy_install for installation, supports SQLite as an additional database,
and will install a sample project if you want to get a quick idea of how
it works.

by Marc A. Lehmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcg1/)
Tue, Dec 4th 2007 07:08

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
System :: Networking

About: Libev is a high-performance event loop featuring support for I/O,
timers (relative and absolute, cron-like ones), signals, process status
changes, and other types of events. It has both a fast native API and
libevent emulation to support programs written using the libevent API. The
libev distribution consists of libevent with the core event handling parts
replaced by the libev embedded event loop. Differences to libevent include
higher speed, simpler design, more features, less memory usage, and no
arbitrary limits. libev supports epoll, kqueue, Solaris ports, poll, and
select.

Changes: A workaround for a Linux 2.4 bug in ev_child watchers has been
implemented. The libevent emulation has been improved. Three new
(optional) watcher types have been introduced: ev_stat to detect attribute
changes for a filesystem path, ev_fork to detect forks, and ev_embed that
lets you embed one event loop in another (e.g. kqueue in poll for those
systems where kqueue only works for some fd types). The documentation was
vastly extended and improved, and a new minimal mode can be used to reduce
code and memory footprint by as much as 30%.

[029] - Openchart2 1.3 RC1
by approximatrix (http://freshmeat.net/users/approximatrix/)
Tue, Dec 4th 2007 00:32

Multimedia :: Graphics
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Openchart2 is a simple charting and plotting library designed for
incorporation with a variety of Java applications. The library can
generate two dimensional bar, pie, radar, and scatter charts with
customized titles, axis labels, legends, and colors. The simplicity of the
library is its strongest feature. Openchart2 is a branch of the original
JOpenChart library.

Changes: This version introduces new API methods to make the
setting/getting of maximum data set values more intuitive than before. It
also corrects issues with CoordSystem updates by registering CoordSystem
objects as ChartDataModelListeners with their respective, controlling data
models. Some code within the scatter plot classes have been tightened up to
protect against possible exceptions. The code changes associated with this
release fix possible bugs observed in both Sun Java 6.0 and Apache Harmony
runtimes.

[033] - renameutils 0.9.0
by Oskar Liljeblad (http://freshmeat.net/users/osk/)
Tue, Dec 4th 2007 10:38

System
System :: Archiving

About: The file renaming utilities (renameutils for short) are a set of
programs designed to make renaming of files faster and less cumbersome.
qmv ("quick move") allows file names to be edited in a text editor. The
names of all files in a directory are written to a text file, which is
then edited by the user. The text file is read and parsed, and the changes
are applied to the files. qcp copies files instead of renaming them. imv
("interactive move"), is trivial but useful when you are too lazy to type
(or even complete) the name of the file to rename twice. It allows a file
name to be edited in the terminal using the GNU Readline library.
Similarly, icp copies files instead of renaming them.

[036] - rsyncrypto 1.06
by Shachar Shemesh (http://freshmeat.net/users/TheSun/)
Tue, Dec 4th 2007 00:45

Information Management :: Document Repositories
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: Rsyncrypto allows you to encrypt a file or a directory structure
such that they can later be synchronized to another machine using rsync.
This means that local changes to the plain text file result in local
changes to the cipher text file. rsyncrypto compresses the plain text file
prior to encrypting it with gzip using the "rsyncable" patch, which is
available from the rsync sources.

Changes: An issue wehre setting the filemap meta data would sometimes
cause a segmentation fault was fixed. The program help was clarified to
state that -c also works with --filelist. The library tests no longer
depend on specific file extensions. A segmentation fault when given the
wrong file as the private/public key was fixed. A regression where
encrypting stdin was not working was fixed.

[037] - ServerKit 2.0.0
by swivel (http://freshmeat.net/users/swivel/)
Tue, Dec 4th 2007 10:43

Database :: API
Internet
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: ServerKit helps developers quickly build efficient, scalable, and
uniformly configured, installed, and executed multi-threaded server
applications for Linux. A core server program handles configuration
parsing, database connection pool creation, and switching of users.
Application-specific modules are loaded at runtime and access the already
parsed configuration data and database connection pools via simple
well-defined program interfaces. ServerKit also provides a rich API for
quick and painless module development.

Changes: The license has changed from HPLv1.1 to GPLv2. Efficiency of
logging has been improved. Personality statistics reporting bugs have been
fixed and formatting improved. The thread pool creation and wchan API was
changed to facilitate efficient wchan profiles in statistics reporting.
The module interface report() method was changed to include a stdio stream
where reports will be sent. The delayed work interface was changed to
include an events mask reflecting what ended the delay on resumed work.
The documentation was updated to reflect all these changes.

About: Shttp is a simple, partial HTTP/1.1 implementation built using the
ServerKit framework. It's a little over 1000 lines of code, and serves
well as a minimal lightweight HTTP server in closed/controlled/static
content settings, as well as a learning tool for those interested in
developing TCP-service-providing modules using ServerKit. Illustrating how
easy it is to build efficient server programs using ServerKit, this module
has demonstrated 7200 requests/second in AB benchmarks.

Changes: This is primarily a maintenance release. Slight changes were made
to make the module ServerKit 2.x compatible. Thread wchan setting was added
to the major potentially blocking sections as well.
