Hello,

If you have the tablet attached when you start X the VT-switch method works.
I've never managed to get it to work when I connected it after though. This
require of course that you have configured X to use a more generic name for
the wacom device than /dev/input/eventX, as the 'X' usually alters between 2
or 3 different numbers depending on which input devices you currently have
connected.

There might be a little more information available if you search for wdaemon
in the devel and discuss list-archives.
There is an alternate way of doing the same thing as a kernel module. Search
for wacomproxy on sourceforge. I know I haven't updated it for some time, but
it can be compiled on 2.6.20 without problems. I hope the documentation is
sufficient if you decide to have a look at it.

These two workarounds are of course not the way it should be, the X.org guys
are working on making the input subsystem more hotplug-friendly. I haven't
seen much lately, but there were some ideas that I'm certain they are working
on. Once that will be in place, hotplugging should be much easier and it will
hopefully eliminate the need for a configuration in the x-config and the
initial restart of X as well.. Things will change, but how is not yet clear.

Cheers
