Sure this is even a HermesI? The proxim I have branded as an orinoco
gold 11b only is a hermesII, which obviously needs the dynamic firmware
loading. I don't have it at hand so I can't check the model number, but
this behavior sounds exactly like what happened when I kluged the pids
into the hermesI driver -- initialization and failure to fetch hw info
since it has the bootstrap fw not the operational one.
Is the antenna long (1" or so) and square, or is it short (1/3" or so)
and smoothly rounded on the corners? If it's short and rounded, it's
almost certainly a hermesII. Another indicator is the logo on the card,
is it gold swooshes, or is it a really excited guy waving his hand in
the air? If its the excited guy, hermesII afaik.
