Hello,
Thanks for replaying!
PR> I believe the problem is in the firmware. You mentioned in another post
that
PR> you have 7.xx firmware. You'll help us a lot if you do following:
Yes, but I haven't got any PCMCIA slot, so I must use this card via
usb adapter... So, are your tips actual to orinoco-usb driver from
CVS? I can write to this card any firmware 7.x or 8.x to test -
currently I have got 8.72. This card is usual Orinoco Classic Gold
Card (the best IMRWLPCE24H) + USB adapter - look image:
http://members.lycos.co.uk/gim3mys2/card.jpg
So, all tips will be useful for me only if there are also (or only)
for this usb card...
PR> - disable the firmware version check from the driver (see below if you don't
PR> like changingthe code)
PR> - use a card with 7.xx firmware
PR> - test monitor mode with Airsnort and channel scanning for more than 20
minutes
PR> - check if Airsnort is still getting packets
PR> - check kernel log for error messages
PR> - report the results, including the exact firmware version
PR> If Airsnort with channel scanning works for you, the firmware check will be
PR> relaxed.
PR> Note to myself - we need a parameter to disable the firmware version check
for
PR> monitor mode. After all, not all users need channel scanning, and simple
PR> monitoring works even with 8.xx firmware. The parameter will be in CVS
PR> tomorrow.
On my USB card and 7.x firmware after launching airsnort system freeze
and I must simply unplug my USB card to be able to work with my
system... Maybe I should use different firmware?
PR> It's completely orphaned, unfortunately. Its author died in a car accident.
PR> Somebody should take over the maintenance. Also, we need a better way to
handle
PR> locking. Conditional locking used in the HEAD branch is not a good idea.
If I understand your sentence there is no way to get monitor mode on
orinoco-usb with current driver... So, is there no idea to get my usb
card using monitor mode?
PR> There are other wireless USB drivers, and there is a lot to be learned from
PR> them. Chris Rankin is working on cleaning up USB support in linux-wlan-ng.
PR> zd1201 driver appeared in the kernel recently. zd1211 is under development.
PR> One possible solution would be to make orinoco_usb a separate driver.
Later it
PR> could possibly incorporate Prism USB and even zd1201 support. They all use
PR> similar configuration mechanisms via so called RIDs with mostly the same
PR> numbers and data format.
So, is there any possibility to get my card working in Kismet? Or
linux-wlan-ng supports also orinoco-usb or other driver supports
orinoco-usb with monitor mode?
