It is not true.
I have linux 2.6.10-gentoo-r4, orinoco 0.15rc2 and orinoco pcmcia card
(iirc it says silver on the card but it supports 104bit wep).
Monitor mode does not work with firmware 7.28 and 7.52. I tried both
these versions. Same error (after going into monitor mode, I get ton
of kernel messagees that card has been removed).
Downgraded to firmware 6.16 and voila. It works.
Just my expirience...
