Set AP not supported: msg#00017

Subject: Set AP not supported
Greetings to everybody,
I'm an Italian student and I'm working on an application for my degree. I'm a
newbie to Linux, so I'm asking your help, please.
I need a way to manually set the AP which the card is associated to in Managed
Mode.

I've downloaded today CVS files of orinoco driver and tested it on 2 laptop:
- an Acer TravelMate 518TX with Fedora Core 1 (kernel 2.4.22-1.2188.nptl and
updated rpms with up2date)
- a Dell Latitude D400 with Fedora Core 2 (kernel 2.6.5-1.358)

Both notebooks use an Orinoco Classic Gold PC Card (Agere System
PC24E-11-ET/R), Primary Firmware v 4.04, Station firmware v 9.42

Every features work fine (association on best AP on startup, scan, ...) but
calling

iwconfig eth0 ap <MAC>

returns the following error:

"Error for wireless request "Set AP Address" (8B14):
        SET failed on device eth1 ; Operation non supported."

TODO file in repository reports: "Done: Allow setting preferred BSSID and
roaming in managed mode", so i think the function is implemented.
Have I done something wrong?

Thank you very much for any help.

PS: I've changed these 2 lines in MAKEFILE to avoid 'make' errors:

KERNEL_VERSION = $(shell uname -r)
DOT_CONFIG = /boot/config-$(KERNEL_VERSION)
