Hi, Stephen!
I see that you are using a PCMCIA card with Agere firmware 8.72. The card
starts misbehaving after it's put to the promiscuous mode.
I know that Agere firmware 8.xx has problems with monitor mode. That's
why is was disabled in CVS after the 0.15rc1 release. However, the driver
from the kernel (presumably 0.13e) has no monitor mode support at all.
My suspicion is that you are running some utility that puts eth1 to
promiscuous mode and also tries to enable monitor mode, which succeeds with
version 0.15rc1.
Multiple messages "eth1: Error -19 configuring card" indicate that you
have a utility that constantly tries to bring the interface up, but it
fails every time.
I cannot reproduce any problems with Agere firmware 8.72 in promiscuous
mode. Please describe the userspace software that uses the card. Also
please post the output of "iwconfig" after the card fails.
I've just changed the error messages in the CVS version to print the
command number for failed commands. You may want to try the CVS version:
https://savannah.nongnu.org/cvs/?group=orinoco
Also, my userspace environment is an i686 running the selinux-2.6.5
kernel (directly from the NSA's website, not a packaged kernel from a
distro). My distro is mandrake-cooker. My laptop is a Toshiba 2410-S206.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
Thanks again,
Steve
