 IRQ routing problems are very unlikely to freeze the box in this
 situation, I think. Hence my advise to try getting hold of possible kernel
 oops messages.

 Another thing you might want to check is the PCI revision that is
 requested by the card vendor - usually v2.3 (where old motherboards only
 support v2.1 or v2.2).
