Re: [D-I] Etch Debian Installer beta 1 released: i18n facts

I know I'm catching this mail late, so I hope the situation has been resolved. On 13/11/2005, at 6:28 PM, Christian Perrier wrote: -We now officially support 51 languages including English, plus 3 languages which we support only in the alpha "graphical" installer Vietnamese is not mentioned in the official announcement because 2nd stage is completely unreadable due to a localechooser bug which was discovered too late. It is "supported", though. What does this mean for users? Has the bug been fixed? Is a working Vietnamese installer? Will Vietnamese be announced with the full release? There's been a lot of interest in this installer, in our community, and I know people are looking to see it announced and working. :S Erdal later said: I was looking at the status page for level 2 Kurdish, which showed all the files as "missing", though a lot of the strings are translated. I've noticed that D-I files completely translated into my language many months ago are STILL listed as "missing". What do we have to do to get them logged? from Clytie (vi-VN, Vietnamese free-software translation team / nhÃm Viát hÃa phán mám tá do) http://groups-beta.google.com/group/vi-VN

Re: D-I Manual -- Status update + call to update translations

XML version can be retreived from debian-installer subversion repository. > How does one go about beginning a translation of the manual? I > haven't translated any Debian docs before. I don't know how much I > can do: are some parts finished better than none? Files appear in the manual in the following order: bookinfo, preface, welcome, hardware, preparing, install-methods, boot-installer, using-d-i, boot-new, post-install installation-howto, preseed, partitioning, random-bits, administrivia, gpl The chapters dealing with hardware are a bit more complicated, because they could mention weird names, acronyms, etc. IMO I would start with bookinfo, preface, welcome, installation-howto and then slowly the rest. -- Miroslav Kure

What is the best approach? Translate it through the webwmls after publication and announce or is there another place to work on while DSA is "cooking" (like DWN)? :) OK, I volunteer to ask the dumb question: what is a DSA? What's DWN? I know it would be overdoing it to explain every acronym we use here, but explaining ones not used frequently here would be helpful. Or a link to a Debian i81n Acronym File, at the bottom of the mail. from Clytie (vi-VN, Vietnamese free-software translation team / nhÃm Viát hÃa phán mám tá do) http://groups-beta.google.com/group/vi-VN
