I wrote all this about one year ago and now we have a better view of such practices.... > > The "If you agree/refuse"-stanzas really don't sound very nice, > especially when translated to German ("Wenn Sie zustimmen/ablehnen"). Sure. But anyway, you're free to diverge from English if you feel that something else would sound better in your language. Diverging from English is often made in the French team. We try to get a strong general consistency in our translations. This consistency is not always present in original English and, though we make our best to help out package maintainers in bringing it to their original templates, this is not always done (often because this could break out *other* translations, thus our fellow translator colleagues work). Explaining the "best debconf writing practices" to package maintainers also requires a lot of energy...constantly repeating the same things ("thou shalt not use double questions", "thou shalt avoid questions for string templates", "thout shalt not use the first person") and often justifying it over and over.... So, sometimes, we just give up and make our best to have a good translation of a not so good original English. That's Evil, yes...:) This is often why I often write and say that translations are usually better than original English...except in D-I... ;) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-i18n-REQUEST@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx with a subject of "unsubscribe".
