Which distribution are you using? Posting your make-fai-nfsroot output was very
useful:

Current versions of FAI require the live-initramfs package to be installed. You
need to grab that one from testing or add 

deb http://www.informatik.uni-koeln.de/fai/download etch koeln

to both /etc/apt/sources.list and /etc/fai/apt/sources.list.
