Hi all,
I just tried installing A/DeMuDi-1.2.0 on a K6 machine with a SiS
chipset. Didn't like it at all, I'm at a loss to know why except
that the SiS 530 driver failed to load. It's a Packard Bell (Club
78) machine that really was only ever intended to run Windows. The
installer also has problems configuring X to work with some of the
really old 14" monitors we have lying around. I don't fully
understand this yet, either.
I am currently setting up a simple multimedia network for my local
Community Arts Centre using a whole load of random hardware that
I've just had thrown at me. I will, of course be installing A/DeMuDi
on most of these machines. I have to say, it's rather exciting being
given the opportunity to create a public GNU/Linux installation,
particularly in a multimedia setting. :-)
cheers

On the X front dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 may help but you may
need to use the advanced settings to manually set refresh rates etc..
You may be able to get the monitor info on the web.
SIS530 rings a bell, I'll try to remember why.

sis530 In dpkg-reconfigure select svga for card.
Sorry for the fractured response, it's late
dpkg-reconfigure may not update the XF86Config-4 file so you may need to
edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file by hand as a final resort. Check :
Option "XkbModel" "pc101" (possibly, if you are using old keyboards)
HorizSync 31.5 - 35.1 # Warning: Setting this too high may fry old Monitors
VertRefresh 43.0 - 90.0 # May flicker.
Driver "svga"
Of course you may know all this so please ignore my ramblings:)
The HorizSync and VertRefresh are for a 14" monitor I have that work
