Subject: Can openCV convert TIF to other formats?

Hi all,

I am using openCV to perform some extensive image processing on 8 bit
BMP images. These images are usually TIF (seems to be an industry
standard in biotechnology).

My question is can I convert a 16bit TIFF image to an 8-bit BMP or
JPG?

I know commercial programs such as Photoshop ad Paint can do it but I
would like this to be "on the fly" so that high throughput image
processing can be performed without user interaction.

Is there another library that can perform this function and then be
converted to an IplImage so that openCV can use it?

I have tried to use cvConvert but it seems cvLoadImage extractsthe
first 8 bits (therefore the images are very dark).

Has anyone had the same trouble?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris
