Subject: Re: Detection of open hand...need help

Hello, Erwin!

I am doing the same thing that you. I have found some papers, that can be of
help:

Paul Viola and Michael J. Jones. Rapid Object Detection using
a Boosted Cascade of Simple Features. IEEE CVPR, 2001.

Freund, Y. & Schapire, R. E. (1996b). Experiments with a new
boosting algorithm. In Machine Learning: Proceedings of the
Thirteenth International Conference, Morgan Kauman, San
Francisco, pp. 148-156, 1996

An Extended Set of Haar-like Features for Rapid Object Detection

I believe that the haar mehod is based in a search for a set of rectangular
areas that best matches some predefined templates, but I dont know how to
obtain this set - this is the training method. If you receive some links about
references in this issue, please let me know.

Cheers,

Luiz Reginaldo

Hello everyone!

I am doing a project on hand gesture recognition. As a necessary
first step, I want to detect an open hand (I use it as a "start"
gesture), and then track it as it moves and changes its shape.

I have read several messages regarding hand detection using haar-
features and haar-training. I have no knowledge of this method and I
am in need of help. Could anyone, show me a tutorial or a link where
I could learn this algorithm/method. How does the method work? Would
it work if I wanted to detect an open hand even if the user is not
wearing a long-sleeved shirt?

Several OpenCV members have had success in implementing this method.
I was wondering if you could offer me some help in this topic.

I know I have a lot of questions, and I do not expect all of them to
be answered. Any response, though would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much!

-Erwin
