[Open CV] Edge detection

I'm a newbie to Open CV and am working on a project that requires me to
detect the edges (or corners) of a box with a single webcam and feed back
the pixel coordinates.  I have no background in vision and was wondering if
someone can point me in the right direction as to where to start.  The
projects focus is actually not on vision, so ideally i'd like to make it as
painless as possible.  Also when we get back the pixel locations we need to
translate that into some idea of where the edges (or corners) are in 3-D
space...if theres stuff in Open CV that can help with that, that'd be
great!  Thanks for any help you guys can give.
