Something better than Canny

Hello:    
I'm testing some algorithms that obtains the contours of a image. I 
have tested the Canny Filter and I know that there is some algorithms 
better than this one, for example the Compass algorithm.   
If anyone knows about others algorithms better than Canny algorithm, 
please, tell me it, please.
