Maybe "sunaudio"? I'm not sure what the issues are for choosing these names...

Any further thoughts on this?

What version of autoconf/automake should I try to use... I'm having difficulty getting the code to build on Solaris 9 with gcc 2.95.3 and the following versions of the autotools stuff:

polycut:~/openal/svnexp> autoconf --version
autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.57

I built the latest automake and autoconf, and I get a lot of warnings from autogen.sh, but at least I can run configure and make now.... still trying to get make to complete successfully. It appears my ESD lib (0.2.18) is way out of date, so I've disabled that backend for now. It looks like SDL (1.2.5) and SMPEG (0.4.4) currently on my Solaris system might actually be sufficient and are picked up automatically. OGG/Vorbis is not getting picked up so I need to get that configured. ALSA, aRts, and OSS aren't available on my test machine, so their getting skipped - I don't even know if they'd compile/work on my test system anyway, so no biggie there.

Unfortunately, the native Solaris backend is not detected... so I'm still trying to sort that out since it's the key backend that should "just work".

So... a wee bit of progress has been made, at least... :-)
