Won't that break in most situations? Specifically because it won't have 
spaces around it to differentiate it from the context:

    [^-f_nbsp_/Jambase/]

Well it can't be that uncommon, seeing as this is only the third 
quickbook doc I write and have a need for it.

Perhaps... Still doesn't remove the desire for it outside of the 
teletype style.
