[no subject]: msg#00000lang.smalltalk.squeak.generaltim -- Tim Rowledge, tim@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, http://sumeru.stanford.edu/tim I'm so skeptical that I'm not sure I'm really a skeptic From C:\*.* to shining C:\*.* From Squeak 1.2, 06/29/1997 4:42 PM. Unfortunately, the .sources file appears to be missing from the various sites that have a 1.2 image. What would be nice, in my opinion, is some way of labeling the "undocumented" methods in the 3.2 & 3.3 with the date where the method first appeared in its current form. Another nice to have would be a simple revision history of the people who changed the method since its creation. I'm not suggesting that we retain all of the old code (that would be unnecessary bloat), but it would be nice to know if a particular method was written by, say, Dan Ingalls, back in 1972. :-) An added benefit of a history mechanism, would be a list of developers who were, at one time, familiar with the code that is currently kicking you in the head. <grin> Questions? Comments? Cheers, ---==> Chris From b) we can derive that we need all "literal classes" (String, Symbol, Integer, Float, Boolean, Association...) From c) we can derive that we need MethodContext and BlockContext (plus superclasses) From d) we can derive that we need Process, Semaphore and ProcessorScheduler (plus superclasses) An extra worthwhile thought is about "Smalltalk specialObjectsArray" which contains a number of well-known objects and classes (which for the most part *must* be present). Put them all into a big pot, stir a bit and see what happens ;-) Cheers, - Andreas From a technical standpoint it's a cool idea. But I really don't get what this would buy the users: Everyone allready has an operating system installed, and, hey, I like to use non-Squeak applikations without rebooting! And such a CD would *only* run in PCs. Not on my mac. Did you see the SqueakNews CDs? They work on Windows, Mac, Linux and lots of other systems. No reboot required.
