Croquet, experience, question.... |
Wow, Croquet is terrific! I was up until 2am this
morning wandering around to various places and getting the hang of how to
navigate in the space. The user interface kind of reminds me of the stuff
shown in the film "Minority Report". Anyway, it's refreshing to see
someone build a 3D world for sharing information with other people
instead of killing them.
Just when I was getting
depressed because I couldn't find another Smalltalk job, Croquet comes along
to put a smile on my face. Thanks Alan and the whole Croquet team! Maybe
late binding will make a comeback after all.
I really want to
develop some kind of collaborative application using Squeak and Croquet.
I've been looking into Groove (www.groove.net). It's a Windows only (unfortunately) collaborative
environment written by Ray Ozzie, of Lotus Notes fame. What do people
think about the idea of building a Squeak client for Groove?
I
see a lot of potential for Croquet. The 3D user experience is a lot more fun
than the 2D user experience. Unfortunately, sometimes I get lost while
walking around. ;-) For instance, I haven't been able to find the shark room
again after playing with it last night. Where is it? Would it be possible to
have some kind of dynamic map or signposts? Maybe we need a guide avatar who
can give directions.
Regards,
Larry
