Yahoo archive truncated

I noticed that the Yahoo archive of the Squeak mailing list 
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/squeak/) has been trimmed so that 
everything before December 2001 seemingly is no longer accessible.

Does anyone know why this happened, and how we can get the history 
restored, and how we can avoid this happening again in the future?
