When I click on the site, I get a Site/User Administrator login screen.
Same here, with Firefox 0.9.2 WinXP...and win98. And I got loads fo
stuff about certificates that I accepted temporarily to get to it.
And the same happens with IE6 under win98,... Amaya 8.1b (rather
old) gives me a blank page. Lynx gives me, top right. "Refreshing
to Welcom page..." and nothing else. Thats lynx on Solaris.
Ah, well. Thank you all for being the beta beta test group. :)
Serves me right for not thinking this through and doing the right thing
in the first place.
Anyway, I was sure there was no site with that domain name, and just
used it as a temp test virtual domain. However, that is no longer true
(if it ever was).
Depending on how you have things set up, your hosts file may or may not
override what comes from DNS. And sure enough, on my WinXP box, I get
an entirely different site (whereas a week ago that domain name failed
to resolve to anything).
So, I shall go do what I should have done in the first place: set up a
virtual domain for www.example.com (unless the rules about that never
being a real site have changed) and let y'all know when I've set up the
code.
(There are other fake names I could pick that would work with hosts file
tricks as well, but using example.com is simplest for me to track and
should be safe for quite some time.)
Sorry for the confusion.
