Threads and OpenAsPicture

Hi!

I am building a batch picture conversion application in RB 5.2. In the 
loop where I open the picture, scale it and then save it I have used a 
progressbar for user feedback. To make the progressbar update correctly 
on Mac OS X I have placed all the open/scale/save code into a thread.

The progressbar updates when I update the value. However during the 
most time consuming part of the loop, opening the picture to be 
converted with OpenAsPicture, the whole user interface is frozen.

Is this due to OpenAsPicture not being thread aware? Is there something 
I can do to make the interface not freeze up or is there something I am 
missing about threads?
