I have been watching this thread with great interest. It gets lonely, at
times, when you are trying to support Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003, and
MacOS 8.5+/9.x/10.x (and getting requests for linux support). It is a very
frustrating task.

I often wonder if I am wasting my time, but in the US education market, it
appears that I am not. Just today, I got a support request from an existing
customer using Windows 95 and OS info from a new customer using Mac OS 8.6.

Supporting this broad range of OSs, not to mention web browsers, has cost me
dearly. I have spent weeks agonizing over a function that "works on all
platforms except (insert random OS(s) here)"

In the end, I may have to have 2 seperate projects. One in 4.5.3 for
supporting older OSs, and one in 5.5+ for cutting edge.

All of this is worthwhile for me in my specific circumstances, but I can
honestly say that I wouldn't wish it on all of you ; - )

Even with all of the hoops, declares, and platform specific oddities, I
still find that RB is the best tool for me to use to accomplish this
monumental task.

Narrowing your support base will save you some time and money, most likely.
Each developer will be forced to weigh the cost vs the benefit for their
specific product. Not always an easy task.
