I have had the same problems after reading the R-news issue with the article on geoprocessing. Then I went to the website mentioned in the article, downloaded the software, installed it and it (at least the projection stuff) didn't work. Maybe someone could put up a message on that website, telling new users that the software is now available on cran through the rgdal library ... Remember, the pdf-version of R-news will not go away, and users who reads that article will probably follow the same tracks as I did, since the packages mentioned are not available on cran.
