Ok. thanks for the link to the documentation. If you specify 'false' for the tabclose option will it not put the little close button on each tab? That would be nice if I wanted to implement my own close scheme, like in Mozilla, where there is one button, and it closes whichever tab that is being displayed.

Default is no tabclose button, so just don't specify it. Or set it
to undef or 0.

It would also be be nice, if I could specify an option to change the orientation of the tabs.I know this isn't currently doable for all sides. For example, when you have tabs on the left or right side, I would like to have the option to have one column of tabs that stick out the side where the text is NOT rotated. This would be like the rotate 0 option in the blt notebook.

That seems simple to do, just another flag. I'll try to get it in tomorrow.

wrt Multiple tab rows:

In some cases, I agree (esp. multipage dialogs, where the selections
should really be either a Properties page - any volunteers for that megawidget ? - or a Wizard type solution).
But for IDEs with multiple sourcecode pages, the notebook seems the
best way to go. I've also considered another
notebook idiom: the little arrow at the right or left margin that shifts
the tabs left/right, using a single tab row...but I've found that
more difficult to view (always forgetting which source files I've got
loaded)

BTW: If anyone has some pTk code for generating little grouped
canvas items that look like fancy Eclipse-type notebook tabs,
I'd happily accept the contribution ;^)

Actually, I've been playing around with "Canvas as a Notebook" idea recently too, but I haven't gotten very far. Maybe after I play with it a bit, I'll have something worthwhile to contribute.
