I also tested the example on ActiveState perl 5.8.7 build 813 and managed to 
generate an
application error with perl.exe trying to access memory it shouldn't have.

Seems to be a bug in the fork() implementation. I get similar anomalies with 
Wheel::Run and DBD::ADO.

Way too much dark voodoo for this poor soldier to even contemplate debugging
