Re: [Boston.pm] emma's pizza: msg#00013lang.perl.perl-mongers.boston
I couldn't disagree more. Well, okay, I could, but I think you're underestimating the variety of kinds of enjoyment some people get from food. You're talking about "taste" in a very basic sense. Most foods provide a whole lot more than just stimulation to the sweet/salty taste buds. Texture (and variety thereof) is certainly one of the appeals of crispy thin-crust pizza. The olfactory sense is a big one, too. Different toppings appeal to different people. Why? I find a stick of salted butter *far* less appealing than even foods that have little or no salt or fat in them (cooked carrots for example... yes, they have the sugar component). Sure, the human body physically is designed to crave fats and salt. So those are a basic requirement for "yummy" food to a lot of people. But while I acknowledge some people eat to live (and that's probably better for long-term health) there are those of us who live to eat. There's a lot more to be enjoyed about eating than just fulfilling some biological craving for fats and salt and sugar. Granted, if the bulk of Boston.pm attendees don't really care, then sticks of butter would suffice. Me, I'd vote for "better" food. Thanks for tolerating my little rant. Can you tell I like food? :-) > -----Original Message----- > From: > boston-pm-bounces+philipp.hanes=riskmetrics.com-PqP1ghmmPMdAfugRpC6u6w@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > > [mailto:boston-pm-bounces+philipp.hanes=riskmetrics.com@xxxxxx m.org] On Behalf Of Steven W.
