Though if you eliminate a few of the jobs where Perl is more of a
side-line, with a query like "perl -administrator -dba", you get a count
of 15,116, which would push it down to #5, below VB and just slightly
above C#.
As the article points out, Java and .NET are mentioned in countless job
postings as "nice to haves," rather than as serious requirements central
to the position, so it's arguable that the more broad "perl" query is
closer to an apples-to-apples comparison.
Also note that Python was apparently not included in this survey (or got
far fewer hits when the data was originally gathered). It gets about
2000 hits, which places it around position #13.
