Choosing A Webhost:
A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to provide their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation. more...

[Boston.pm] joke CPAN modules: msg#00074

Subject: [Boston.pm] joke CPAN modules

Hey, am I the only one to be burned by a CPAN module that turned out to be a joke?

The first time I found one, I realized what it was ... Inline::PERL which claims to "Bring the power of PERL programming to your Perl programs." Obviously this was intended as funny.

But, while working on an XML project for work, I tried to find an XML::Simple for ActiveState Perl ... and could not. Instead I found XML::Ximple (not quite what I wanted) and (ironically) XML::Simpler.

After installing and testing XML::Simpler ... I realized that it was meant as a joke (I guess a sarcastic rebuttal to the complaints lodged at XML::Simple). Still, it burned me ... and took time to install and test. I didn't discover it's ironic nature until I examined the source code.

[BTW: I never did find a working PPD for XML::Simple, but when I learned it was pure perl, I just downloaded into the appropriate directory and was able to get on with my project.]

So, am I just incredibly naive or has anyone else been burned by joke modules?
