There are a number of things that need doing, i.e. editing the version
number in PDL.pm.PL (if I recall correctly), finalising all other
files (release notes etc) and tagging CVS. That needs to be followed
by a 'make dist', unpack dist and 'make test'. If all passes it needs
to be transferred to the file release area.
This is from memory and I might have missed some steps. Did we ever
make a checklist?

One step I've been doing once the tarball has made it into CPAN (ie
when you go to http://search.cpan.org/~csoe/PDL/ it comes up with the
latest version, which can take a while) is to add a release note to
freshmeat, such as
http://freshmeat.net/projects/pdl/?branch_id=7701&release_id=184334
I'm away for the next three weeks so it'd be good if someone else can
do this.
