A standard generic framework ...: msg#00051

Subject: A standard generic framework ...
Hi there,

I'm investigating the possibilities of creating a standard generic framework for a self-service page, and the template-toolkit appears to me to be a very good candidate for this (possibly the best one).

The strengths of this architecture will be that one can easily include additional services in a clean and standardized way, e.g. using plugins. Say a new product which is launched in the future must be easily hooked into the existing framework cleanly and without impacting the existing stuff.

Other requirements are authentication and the ability to restrict/allow certain areas/functions according to the type of user and the products he/she has ordered or wants to order. Each service interfaces with an underlying system (like a database) so that the end-user can view and/or modify relevant information, upgrade/downgrade and order new products. I'm considering XML-RPC, SOAP-Lite or a combination of the two.

I already have much experience with the Template-Toolkit, have read the book from cover-to-cover several times, am familiar with Maypole's and Bugzilla's use of TT, etc.

Any suggestions where I might look for more information, similar implementations, cpan modules, examples, etc? I'm sure I am not the first one to want to create such a web site.

Thanks very much in advance for your help.
