I can make it my $self = shift; again, but it's just going to be
discarded anyway at close of lexical.
My previous taint patch went nowhere because it involved a regex, if
this goes nowhere because of the standalone shift, that's fine too.
It's more of an FYI. The code works for me, might not be right for the
distro RT.
