just to clarify, it's the mail server on my end that was causing my
frustration. misconfiguration.

This is a moderated list for nonsubscribers. The mail server was not
eating your messages, it was holding them for approval. Didn't you
get a message saying so? If not, it must have been eaten by your spam
filter or something.
