This is probably getting way off topic, but hopefully I can tie this
thread off. I triggered this side discussion by mentioning RH9 and
Perl 5.8.0 . I took Michael's advice and upgraded. There is no
official upgrade to a later Perl, so I compiled 5.8.6 from source.
"make test" complained once, but it otherwise compiled, tested, and
installed OK. Oh, and I removed the unused perl-NDBM_File rpm before
that rebuild. The "fakeinstall" message went away.
Now, back to figuring out how to use Module::Build . With 8 months
of Perl and zero background in OO, learning about a rapidly developing
module with partly completed documentation is a challenging experience.
Not to mention that my choice of targets ( man5, man8, sbin, share )
are not built into M::B, so I get to learn sub-classing, too. I'll
be an expert when I'm done ...
