Yes, the difference is subtle. There's something in our faq about this -
from memory the difference is that if the entire operation needs to be sent
elsewhere (eg the base object in the search is non-local) then you get a
referral. If some local processing can occur, but some other servers may
need contacting, then you get continuation references.

0x13 is [application 19] which is SearchResultReference (ie continuation
references) and 0x05 is [application 5] which is SearchResultDone (which
might have a referral). It all fits together :-)
