It's due out in the new year, but the following looks promising:

That link even has a sample chapter.

In the meantime, Clement, try re-installing bioperl 1.0.2 or get your sysadmin 
to do so.  Once you have done so, make a simple fasta file for input and try 
copying and pasting the synopsis code from the Bio::Tools::Run::RemoteBlast 
documentation, modified for your input:

Redirect STDERR to a file and if you can't figure out why something didn't 
work, you can post the messages in that file.
