Just some musings on this. Since this company you reference is obviously benefiting substantially from Jython, maybe you could sell your superiors on donating $50K or so to the Python Software Foundation earmarked to making the improvements to Jython you want to you can use it more widely? Really, that's pocket change to a large financial institution; when I worked for such that amount could be spent on effectively useless annual vendor maintenance contracts (e.g. "we might patch it in next year's release" type responses to crucial problems) and hardly anyone would bat an eyelash; at least with free / open source software you often get some accountability and responsiveness. :-) If you could argue, say, that Jython raises a five person Java developer team's productivity by even just 20%, at a very conservative total employee cost of $100K / person, that's saving your company at least $100K a year. If your company doesn't want to hand over the money to a third party, then assigning one in-house developer out of ten to work on improving Jython might also have the same effect, or having each developer put 10% of their time to Jython issues. Anyway, don't want to put you on the spot; just something to think about.
