As I understand, the GHC developers did not provide an initial binary for
x86 FreeBSD either.

So yes, you'll need to ask the Haskell FreeBSD ports maintainers to
bootstrap from sources.

This should be fairly straightforward as they'd only be porting from x86
FreeBSD (or x86-64 Linux) to x86-64 FreeBSD.
