I expect that there's some inconsistency between your hi-boot file and
reality. (No excuse for such a bad message though.) The HEAD never
falls over with this uninformative "top_errs" message. So you could try
that.
I guess you could check very carefully for consistency. I know it's a
cop-out but I'm much keener to debug the HEAD than 6.0.1
